title . This amazing 80s band t-shirt is for the British synth-pop group Frankie Goes to Hollywood, and the shirt showcases a photo of former US President Ronald Reagan with a hole through his skull and the words “only Frankie can stop me now”. The shirt is designed to reference, one of the band’s most notorious songs, “Two Tribes”, an anti-war tune that paired a catchy pounding bassline with a message critiquing nuclear warfare.

title . This controversial t-shirt design was perfectly in line with the band’s penchant for stirring up trouble for conservatives, as Frankie Goes to Hollywood, had previously achieved a smash hit with their debut single “Relax”. The song was banned from British radio by the BBC, after the broadcasting corporation realized the sexual connotations of the song. Further opposition to the song was stirred up thanks to its music video, set in a gay S&M parlor, and also the open homosexuality of band members Holly Johnson and Paul Rutherford. Ironically the BBC’s attempt at censorship only heightened the popularity of the song, and in support of the band, fans began wearing tees that read “Frankie Says Relax”.
