Lizzo Leonardo DiCaprio & Ellen AmongStar-Studded Guest List At Adele’s ‘OneNight Only’

There were more stars in the aisles of Adele‘s CBS special than there are in the skies over Los Angeles. Adele One Night Only saw the 33-year-old singer take the stage at L.A’s. Griffith Observatory, performing for a crowd that includes such A-list celebrities like Gabrielle Union, her husband Dwyane Wade, and James Corden, just to name a few. “I flew all across the country just to be here,” said Tyler Perry in Entertainment Weekly’s preview special. The Late Late Show host also marveled over the experience. “What an incredible evening,” said Corden. But that was just the beginning

As the special progressed, it was clear that all of Hollywood had literally emptied and hiked up to the Griffith Observatory to see Adele performed. The guest list was a mile long: Seth Rogen was in the front row; bestie Nicole Richie was there, along with Selena Gomez ,Gayle King, Ellen DeGeneres, Gordon Ramsay, Sarah Paulson, Melissa McCarthy, Donald Glover, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ava DuVernay, Drake, and yes, you did see Leonardo DiCaprio!

Before the show aired, we knew there was even another powerhouse performer in the audience. There’s a moment in the preview where Lizzo is on her feet, dressed in an elegant smoke-colored feathery outfit. “Also, get you, Lizzo,” Adele tells the “Rumors” singer. “You’re going to outshine me, babes.” Adele promises there will be plenty of witty banter and some of her trademark humor. “It will look really elegant, and then I will tell a load of filthy jokes. It will be sort of whiplash for them,” Adele told Oprah Winfrey, who interviewed Lizzo for the two-hour special.

Adele One Night Only saw the “Hello” singer dip into her discography while also giving viewers a taste of her upcoming album, 30. “You’ll hear a lot of older songs and then four new songs,” Adele told Oprah. She also discussed how the Griffith Observatory was the perfect place for this “comeback” concert. “Being in LA as well, where I sort of had to recover from everything that happened in my life the last few years. It was the perfect show.”

The “everything that happened in my life” Adele speaks of? She likely means the breakdown of her marriage with Simon Konecki. The couple announced their split in April 2019 after three years of marriage. “It was overdue,” Adele said of her divorce. “It was exhausting, it was really hard work, but I was able to take the time that I needed, which isn’t a given for everyone. I’m very aware of that.” Adele, who shares a son, Angelo Adkins, 9, with Simon, said that her new album would reflect “my side” of the story. “I’ve done a lot of learning over the last few years, more than ever,” she said. 30 arrives on Nov. 19.

Ashley Benson Rocks Plunging PlaysuitFor Paris Hilton’s Lavish 2nd WeddingReception

Ashley Benson, 31, turned heads at Paris Hilton and Carter Reum‘s second wedding event! The Pretty Little Liars alum opted to wear a plunging floral printed playsuit to the black tie soirée held in Los Angeles on Saturday, Nov. 13. Ashley left little to the imagination with the revealing outfit, which she paired with a pair of sheer black tights, mule pumps and a black crocodile handbag.

The actress, who split with G-Eazy back in February, appeared to attend solo but did link arms with a male friend outdoors. The pair were ween in front of the Yeastie Boys Bagels truck, which is the mobile outpost of a popular Sunset Boulevard eatery. Ashely and her friend appeared to be taking some goodies to go as he held onto a box while heading back to the car area.

The California native was also in attendance for Paris and Carter’s Thursday nuptials, which included a romantic ceremony. Ashley was all old Hollywood glamour in a strapless gown with a Jessica Rabbit inspired cut and hight slit. She paired the formal piece with a YSL handbag adorned with sparkly Swarovski crystals.

Last night’s black-tie event marked the third event Paris, 40, held in honor of her first wedding: she also hosted friends and family at the ‘Paris World’ carnival, which was a takeover of the iconic Santa Monica Pier. The socialite and reality star stunned in a custom alice + olivia high-low gown that included a princess-approved tulle skirt, veil and plenty of crystal details.

Ashley and Paris have been friends for several years, after hitting it off at Seth MacFarlane‘s house, the Spring Breakers actress previously said. “We met six or seven years ago, at Seth McFarland’s house…it was my mom’s birthday and it was Seth’s birthday around the same time, and my mom happened to be out with her friends and her sister. And then Seth invited us to his house — then I met you there and we were there all night until 4 a.m,” Ashley explained to listeners on the This Is Paris podcast. The love appears to be mutual, as Paris sweetly called Ashley “one of my good friends…so gorgeous, sweet, cute and I’m obsessed!” before the two talked about life in quarantine, being hounded by the paparazzi.

While the nation observed Veterans Day on Thursday, a small group of military veterans and their supporters gathered at St. Petersburg’s Williams Park on Thursday to observe Armistice Day, a day that they say is to celebrate peace, and not militarism.November 11 marked the end of hostilities in World War I in 1918 and was named Armistice Day the following year by U.S. President Woodrow Wilson. In making his proclamation, Wilson said, “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations.”

Armistice Day then became a federal holiday in 1938 and was changed to Veterans Day in 1954.

“I think a veteran like us, and this veteran here, we want peace. We saw war, and we don’t want to see how ugly it is,” said Jay Alexander, the acting president of the Tampa Bay Chapter of Veterans for Peace, who was standing right next to Mike Flannery, a Navy Veteran who served in Vietnam.

Alexander was wearing a shirt which featured a quote from former President Dwight Eisenhower on the back. Eisenhower served as Supreme Allied Commander of all forces in Europe in 1943. His quote from 1946 said, “I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity.”

This was the first Veterans Day/Armistice Day observance in more than 20 years that the U.S. did not have military troops in Afghanistan. The U.S. completed its withdrawal in late August, but not before a chaotic exit that included a terrorist attack that killed 13 U.S. Marines.

The rushed ending brought unfavorable comparisons to how the country exited Vietnam in 1975, putting a dark coda on America’s longest running war.

“Nation building is not our forte,” said Orlando Acosta, a U.S. Air Force Veteran and former St. Petersburg city council candidate who served in Afghanistan and was in attendance on Thursday. “Other people are much better at it than we are. Building a nation from the embers that were Afghanistan afterwards is a multi-generational task.”

One of the issues that Veterans for Peace have advocated for is the repeal of the 2002 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) that gave broad authority to President George W. Bush to invade Iraq in early 2003.

“Congress has the duty of declaring a war, not the president,” Alexander says.

A major issue for the military community over the past decade plus has been the high rate of suicides among veterans. Veterans make up about 7.9% of the U.S. population, but account for about 13.5% percent of suicides in the country, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The Biden Administration announced a series of five goals and executive orders last week that they say will drive suicide prevention efforts forward. “Suicide among service members, veterans, and their families is a public health and national security crisis,” the White House said.

Veterans for Peace has not always been welcome in some Veterans and Memorial Day parades around the country. Alexander said that hasn’t been the case in Pinellas County, saying that he and some other members marched in a Gulfport event honoring veterans a few years ago.

“There are some cities that are not ‘woke’ yet. They’re still in the past,” he said. “It’s time to bring peace out there and show that we’re veterans and we saw it first-hand. We were involved in it, and we were under fire.”

Also attending the proceedings was Abimael Jimenez, a staff assistant for Congressman Charlie Crist. Jimenez read aloud a statement from Crist.

“I comment Chapter 119 of Veterans for Peace for their dedication to commemorating both Veterans the plight for peace,” the Congressman wrote.

There’s nothing sweeter than a mother-son moment!

“My beautiful date tonight! MOM!! #CMAawards,” he wrote on Instagram with a photo from the CMA photo booth.

On any other occasion, Thomas Rhett would typically show up with his wife Lauren Akins. However, this time around, Akins is set to deliver the pair’s fourth daughter any day now.

“Thank you!” replied Lankford with a smile.

Veterans Day 2021 What’s open what’s closed on Thursday UPS FedEx banks mail delivery stock markets stores restaurants

Veterans Day is celebrated every Nov. 11 with parades, ceremonies, concerts, speeches and more events across the United States. The federal holiday is typically observed on the same day every year, but if Nov. 11 falls on a weekend, it is observed on the closest weekday. This year, Veterans Day falls on Thursday, so it will be observed Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021.

Veterans Day is a national holiday that originally began as Armistice Day on Nov. 11, honoring all members of the U.S. armed services. It coincides with other holidays around the world, including Remembrance Day, marking the end of World War I on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. In 1954, Congress passed the bill that President Eisenhower signed, officially changing the name to Veterans Day to honor all military veterans.

The holiday is sometimes confused with Memorial Day, held in May, which recognizes those who died while in military service; and Armed Forces Day, also observed in May, which honors those currently serving in the U.S. military.

Grizzlies’ Dillon Brooks could be back in lineup ‘pretty soon’

Memphis Grizzlies guard Dillon Brooks continues to work his way back from a broken left hand, and coach Taylor Jenkins expects him back on the floor “pretty soon,” adding Monday night that “everything’s trending the right direction.”

Brooks hasn’t yet made his 2021-22 season debut and disclosed in September at Memphis’ media day that he broke his hand during an offseason workout.

Jenkins provided an update on Brooks’ recovery ahead of the team’s 125-118 overtime win against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday.

“He had a great check-in with the doctors,” Jenkins said. “[The] doctor is really proud with his progress, thinks he’s in a great place. Obviously, you know he was assigned and had a simulated game today. [He] looked great in that. He’s checking all the boxes that we have. It’s just a matter of just us and the performance team continuing to figure out when’s the best time for him to come back. Everything’s good; just making sure we’re doing everything. Medically, getting clearance there. Basketball-wise, making sure he’s getting his conditioning right.”

The team announced on Monday that it assigned Brooks, Sam Merrill and Santi Aldama while transferring Yves Pons to the Memphis Hustle to participate in a simulated game with the team, and all of them returned to the Grizzlies ahead of Monday’s matchup against Minnesota.

Asked whether Brooks would be cleared to play this week, Jenkins said, “I can’t put a timeline on it. Obviously, we have hopes of when it could be, but we’re just kind of managing day-to-day. [I] hope he responds well [Tuesday], and that will give us more indication on when we could potentially see him back on the floor.”

The team’s longest-tenured player, Brooks enters his fifth season after averaging 17.2 points last season to go with 1.2 steals over the course of 67 games.

Missing arguably its most tenacious defender in Brooks, Memphis (6-4) currently ranks 28th in the NBA in defensive rating (112.7), 27th in opponent points off the break (15.4) and 25th in opponent points in the paint (49.0). Jenkins anticipates “a huge boost” defensively from Brooks’ return to the court, but he stressed the Grizzlies can’t rely on just one player to reverse their fortunes on that end of the floor.

“We’re all capable of improving our one-on-one defense, our help defense, our coverage execution,” Jenkins said. “Our paint rim defense is struggling. It’s a lot of different areas. It’s not just one reason. So, obviously, he’s a huge boost. I mean, he’s big time. I always say, [he’s our] tone-setter, spirit leader for us in general, but especially defensively. When he gets out there, his physicality, instincts, intelligence [are] really going to help us a lot. But we all know that everyone’s got to improve.”

Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows Credits Good Charlotte With ‘City of Evil’ Break

It was 2005 and Avenged Sevenfold became one of the breakout acts of the year with their City of Evil album, but it didn’t really start off that way. In fact, M. Shadows revealed that if it wasn’t for an extra push from Good Charlotte, their career trajectory may have taken longer.

The vocalist recalled how things played out during an appearance on the Tuna on Toast With Stryker podcast (as heard below). Shadows reflects, “When that album first came out, our fans on [2003’s] Waking the Fallen were very bummed on it. The fans were like, ‘This isn’t Waking the Fallen 2.'”

“We came off of a disappointing first week, and then basically no traction. The record had dropped all the way off the charts and it was, we’re doing, 2,000-3,000 records per week, which at the time was a total failure. And we’re on a major label and have a different sound,” he adds.

“It was a disappointment, because the thing was just going like this and it was like, ‘Well, what’s gonna save us?,” the singer continues, before nodding to Good Charlotte. “Benji and Joel [Madden] were like, ‘We’re gonna take them on TRL with us and play ‘Bat Country’ on TRL. Because they liked us and we liked them, we were friends, and I think we were one of those bands that came off as, like if people were gonna talk bad about Good Charlotte, it would be someone like us. And we weren’t those guys. We were like cool with them. We loved Good Charlotte and we were friends with them.”

“They said, ‘We get to bring on an artist that we want,’ and they brought on Avenged Sevenfold,” Shadows revealed. “They played our video and it never left TRL after that. And it went all the way to No. 1. And then we ended up winning video music of the year [Best New Artist].”

“It really was because Benji and Joel saw something, Good Charlotte saw something that no one else saw, and they took us on there and it had a mainstream audience,” says Shadows. “The video was killer, the song worked, and then all of a sudden everything just started going. It was like, here we go.”

Though City of Evil peaked at No. 30 on the Billboard 200 album chart, the buzz from their MTV play helped catapult them to reaching a new audience and breaking out in a major way. After “Bat Country,” “Beast and the Harlot” and “Seize the Day” followed and the album has since gone on to reach platinum certification status. And by the time their follow-up self-titled album dropped in 2007, it debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart, starting a hugely successful run for the band.

Within the same interview, M. Shadows also spoke with Stryker about their next album, which remains on hold even though it’s been completely written for over a year. “If everybody was in the headspace where we could go on tour, support this record, and life wasn’t completely getting in the way and all these other endeavors that people are doing, and then also just the randomness of the Covid stuff. Shows are on then they’re off then they’re on then they off,” reiterated Shadows explaining why they’ve held off.

He added, “The songs are done. I still have some vocals to do. And we have some strings to record. And the thing with the strings is that, in L.A. they’re simply not allowing people to be within six feet. And we have experience, I’m not gonna name bands, but our producer worked on some records and he’s like, ‘Listen, you put somebody six feet apart and you mic them all, it does not sound like a group playing together.’ There’s so many little things. And we’re just not willing to compromise on it. And at the end of the day, everyone needs to decide I’m ready to go support a record.”
